Creating target pages

A target page, otherwise called doorway pages, is simply a single page optimized for one keyword or one phrase for one search engine. You probably have seen target pages before and never even realized it. If you've come across a page that has a logo and says please enter here or something similar, you have likely come across a target page optimized to help you find the main site of this company.

Target pages may designed for one or all of the following purposes:

To help you get better rankings for your keywords in search engines.
To create entry pages for online marketing campaigns
To help search engine spiders crawl your site
To create topic-based marketing sections, sub-domains or web sites

Anyone can create a page for one keyword based on search engine public guidelines. But there are many obstacles to achieving to position with the do-it-yourself approach:

You need specific web design and HTML knowledge
You need to be constantly well-informed on search engines
You need to fail a few times in order to learn
You have better things to do, don't you?

With the help of pros that know search engines inside and out your efforts are far more likely to succeed.

Now theoretically if one of your main keywords were "free online auction", multiple doorway pages should be created for that one term for various search engines. Each page must be specifically optimized for that word for a given search engine. Each page must be different as each search engine uses different criteria to determine their rankings.

What will then happen if you don't create original content for each page? You will end up with numerous near-identical pages as far as search engines can tell. In other words you will create competition for yourself, dilute inbound traffic, and most likely make search engines wary of your guerilla-marketing tactics. To prevent this problem some online providers create a gateway hosted on their server that redirects and counts search engine hits while letting through known spiders. Dubbed "doorway page cloaking" this technique only make matters worse as you bind search engine traffic to a third-party on which you will solely depend from then on.

That's why doorway pages are steadily loosing popularity and those providing these services have already made or are well on their way to search engines spam list. And that's why to avoid misunderstandings we rather call our optimized pages "target pages". The creation process is far more involving than creating a cookie cutter software-based HTML page. What we do is opening doors for search engines so visitors can find your site through them searching relevant keywords. When we create a multiple-pages strategy we always use original content creating effective, long term keyword-centric online channels between you and the biggest referral sources on the Internet.
